Saffron Kitchen is an Indian restaurant in Leyton serving traditional Indian dishes alongside a fusion menu. The establishment has had some rave reviews so we decided to check the place out for ourself.
The Butter Chicken shown below, while pleasant, lacked in piquancy. The taste was too subtle to be able to distinguish any outright flavours. The Jalfrezi faired better in taste, but still lacked a certain “joie de vivre”.
No curry is complete without naan bread. We opted for the chilli naan bread and garlic naan bread. Both were fairly average in taste.
The lamb chops were big, tender and succulent. It melted in the mouth effortlessly without the aid of a knife to cut through into bite size pieces.
The masala fries was better than the first time we ordered these; fluffy on the inside, crisp on the outside and the masala flavour was subtle.
The mixed chaat platter was beautifully presented and beautifully executed. When such beauty is presented to you it is every foodie’s dream when it comes to snapping away with the camera. The mixed chaat platter was an epic starter; light and flavoursome, leaving plenty of space in one stomach for the next course.
The chicken chow mein from their fusion menu, although a little on the dry side, had a nice spicy seasoning to it which complimented the oriental vegetable noodles thus bringing together the “fusion” concept.
No meal is complete without a mocktail or two. We opted for the Strawberry Mojito and Pino Colada. Both were refreshing.
Epic fried ice cream enveloped within a crisp filo parcel and drizzled with a delectable warm chocolate sauce. The ice cream maintained its solid frozen state within the warm outer coating and each component brought together this beauty perfectly. A work of art both taste wise and visually. Be sure to save room in your stomach for this during your next visit. We assure you, it will be one of the highlights of your meal.
The red velvet cookie dough with white chocolate droplets was a pleasant alternative from your usual choc chip flavour and transformed the humble cookie dough into a red velvet sensation.
Saffron Kitchen certainly take pride in offering a variety of traditonal and fusion dishes to cater for all taste buds. The thought process gone into creating a diverse menu is evident in both their presentation and delivery.
